Can we trust the data?

Can we trust the data?
And No!!
Understanding the process
I'm going to explain here how the News gets found and published...
What are the problems?
- The process is not truly objective, nor could we make it so
- The data published on this site is being selected by a small number of people and may be subject to what's called "confirmation bias" (If I'm going to buy a BMW, suddenly 'every' car I see on the road is a BMW!)
What are the strengths?
- The process is consistent over time, so trends in the data will be meaningful because the underlying conditions to support them stay the same.
What should we conclude?
Recognising that the process is imperfect then - like the Pirate in the Caribbean - we should recognise these results as more like guidelines, rather than rules!
