No one knows about the day or the hour (FR IT PT SP)
EN English ( FR IT PT SP ) Very famously, Jesus said that no one knows about the day or the hour when heaven and earth will pass away (Matthew 24:35-6) (There’s a parallel passage in Mark 13:31-32 ) For years I have taken that verse out of context and misunderstood it. I’d also failed to spot a mis-translation. And I’d not understood anything about the cultural context… I was just lazily taking it as licence not to think things through any further. The context I’ve been quoting that verse 36 on its own for many years, without realising that it follows straight on from verse 35 . (The artificial section heading added by many English translations doesn’t help: i t’s not there in the original Greek text !) Like many that I’ve read or heard preach on that verse, I’d assumed that it was speaking about the rapture of the church.
