We know that there have been conflicts throughout human history. However, it wasn’t until 1914 that they were big enough to be labelled a ‘World War’. Just looking at the data since 1989 there’s a clear trend upwards in the number of conflicts.

Here is a list of the current wars, with the highest casualties recorded in Ukraine, Palestine, Myanmar, Sudan and Ethiopia. There are rumours of war between China-Taiwan, Israel-Iran and others, USA-Venezuelan and more…

  • 22 Sep 2025 is the International Day of Peace, with a focus on racism, peace, security, and prosperity 
  • 23 Sep 2025 is marked for the gathering of international leaders at the UN General Assembly. Already France, UK, Canada, Australia and Malta have announced their commitment to a two-state solution, recognising Palestinian statehood. As France’s President Macron wrote, “determination to see the Palestinian people have their own state is rooted in our conviction that lasting peace is essential to the security of the state of Israel”.

  • Blood moon visible from Jerusalem 07 Sep 2025 17:30 GMT with a total lunar eclipse for 82 minutes. (There already was a blood moon 13-14 Mar 2025 falling directly on the Jewish feast of Purim; there will be another also set to fall on Purim, 03 Mar 2026. There will then be a solar eclipse in August 2026)
  • Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) is generating a lot of excitement in the astronomy community. Early predictions suggest that it could become one of the brightest comets of the decade! This long-period comet is expected to pass relatively close to Earth, and it could be visible to the naked eye for several weeks in September and October 2025.
  • Asteroid Apophis is causing scientific puzzlement because it has unexplained characteristics which indicate that it could be artificial, able to communicate and navigate. It’s named after the Egyptian serpent god of destruction. It is expected to pass close to the earth in 2029.
  • Some in the Christian community claim that such speculation, and the recent US Government disclosures about Unidentified Aerial/Aquatic Phenomena (UAPs/UFOs) are preparations for a claim that the disappearance of Christian believers in the rapture is instead an ‘abduction by aliens’. These Christians think that the UAP/UFO phenomena is instead an explanation for activity by demons.

I dug out some depressing numbers from the CRM world: only 30% of companies with a CRM implementation feel that they've had a positive return on their investment. Mostly, the issues are not technical ones (it's not that hard to get the software installed and some superficial training completed). But there are some similarities with many IT projects: Lack of agreed goals and business case "Fail to plan, plan to fail" is the old saw that is daily proved true. I've seen clients invest in new hardware and software for the wrong reasons. (Last year, one IT department wanted to buy new software to secure training for the existing team in an attempt to secure their jobs and enhance their CVs...) Apple Watch doesn't need Touch ID - killer feature

When Apple Watch was announced last week, like many I was surprised that it didn't include the Touch ID fingerprint security first revealed in the iPhone 5S. But it doesn't need it; and this could be key to awesome value from the Apple Watch. A killer feature. We know that the Apple Watch will need to be unlocked, authenticated, once each day. But that it'll remain unlocked as long as it's on your wrist. However we don't know how it gets unlocked. Tapping in a passcode on the watch screen would be a step backwards after Touch ID. Here's a better plan: we know the Watch needs an iPhone. Place it on your wrist for the first time that day and let the watch communicate with your nearby iPhone for you to confirm your identity, ideally with Touch ID rather than a passcode. Then let the iPhone confirm who you are back to the Watch and it can remain unlocked so long as you keep it on your wrist. Great. But it gets better: once the Watch knows it's securely on...

Great graphics support from 99designs

What a great experience for my first time using 99designs! I wrote a decent brief and tried to provide fast & honest feedback. I worked through 158 designs from dozens of designers, whether solo artists or companies. Impact Designers stood out through their attention to details in the brief; creative interpretation; spontaneous initiative in providing variations of the design; and showing mock-ups of the design if used in real life... They were fast and accurate in responding to feedback and initiated a call (from India to UK) to clarify their understanding. Nothing seemed too much trouble and I got exactly what I asked for. We deliver value hidden in the depths of data to make money and save money. The logo neatly captures our technical collaboration around data.
